A FEW WORDS ABOUT YOUR DEVELOPMENT AND YOUR MAIN MISSIONS TODAY?
I joined the company as a Works Supervisor just after graduating from the ESTP construction school. My level of responsibility quickly evolved and I became Principal Works Supervisor and then Group Manager.
A Group Leader can be responsible for several operations or for a large-scale operation. At present, I'm in charge of a 363-home site spread over 8 buildings, with an overhead 600-space parking lot. I'm in charge of a team consisting of a Senior Site Manager, 5 Site Engineers and a few apprentices. I'm also responsible for meeting deadlines, safety, quality and the financial results of the operation. This involves planning and organizing site tasks and managing the various players involved. I also have a “leadership” role, which involves supporting and motivating the teams.
TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A SITE SUPERVISOR
I started working on the “Pléiade” project in Nice during my final year internship with the agency. The project was designed by the Jean Nouvel studio, and comprises 123 homes in 2 buildings of 17 and 10 storeys. When you leave school, you have a lot of knowledge, but you don't really know how a building site works. Working on this project, I was lucky enough to be present from the very first shovels and to be able to take part in every stage, which was a great learning experience. I now report to a Senior Works Supervisor who has helped me to progress rapidly in an excellent atmosphere, and to an Operations Manager who oversees 6 sites in our branch.
I started by consulting the trades and drawing up the execution budget, then went on to supervise the trades and structural work on the 2nd building. I also organize meetings with our partners, and take care of reporting and monitoring on site. The uniqueness of some of the project's services led us to make a lot of separate supplies and installations. It's a financially attractive approach, but one that requires considerable personal investment and responsibility.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR YOUNG GRADUATES INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN CONSTRUCTION?
Christophe: It's an exciting, hands-on job with a lot of human interaction. We're constantly evolving, learning a lot on jobsites that are never the same. By joining one of the FAYAT BÂTIMENT Division branches, I've joined a dynamic branch on a human scale and I'm lucky enough to work with passionate colleagues.
Dorian: You have to be bold and not be afraid to invest yourself in a project. I had the opportunity to have a lot of autonomy as a young Works Supervisor. I owe this autonomy in large part to the human dimension of the agency, which enables me to have a direct relationship with my superiors, with whom I can talk, and with whom I've been able to develop mutual trust.
